Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Very tall. Protoss typically grow between two and three meters, with very thin, but strong frames, and stand on digitigrade legs.

2. How old is he?
268, which is actually quite young for a Protoss, whose life expectancy is at most 1000 years.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Artanis stands tall, proud, with his shoulders back and head held high - a manner which nearly all other Protoss carry themselves.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Fit with no known illnesses or conditions. Artanis sees himself as a warrior, first and foremost, and he still remains very formidable.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Protoss are all 'bout grace, pride and honour. That hopefully says a lot.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He absolutely does not think about how "good" he looks, and to my knowledge, isn't too concerned about romance. If that even is a thing applicable to Protoss. He's barely interested in donning gear worthy of the Protoss Hierarch, but he does it to satisfy the will of others.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
A very even sort of blue. Protoss have semi-permeable, scaled skin. No scars are actually mentioned at any point (that I'm aware of) but considering his history as a warrior, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a few.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
The closest thing Protoss have to hair are their nerve cords - long, seemingly braided in appearance strands that protrude from underneath the base of the crests on their skulls. These nerve cords are what allow their connection to the Khala, a kind of universal Protoss psionic link. But for plot reasons, Artanis, and those who follow him, voluntarily severed theirs.

That being said, Artanis' nerve cords have been cut short. But then I can't really explain why he still has some dangling down by his face--

9. What color are his eyes?
A very vibrant, glowing blue. The glow is normal for all Protoss, but their eye colours differ according to their tribe. Most eye colours are either red, blue, or green.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
His hands have four fingers, two of which are apparently thumbs (which I take to mean they're opposable). Protoss have no mouths, noses, ears, or even sense of taste. They hear and smell through their skin, though their primary sense is their eyesight, which is good, even in darkness. They receive nutrition from sunlight, and... have three hearts for some reason, idk. They're probably tiny though, considering the overall size of their chest cavity. Assuming their hearts are in their chests......

Though it isn't physical, I'm not sure where else I can put this, so here is where it'll be for now:

All Protoss are naturally capable of reading minds, it's just up to the individual how much or little they filter out. This applies both ways, so they choose to read the minds of others, while blocking theirs, or... any similar combination, really. In Artanis' case, and for the sake of not being annoying in RP, I will automatically have Artanis block himself from reading other's minds.

11. What are his chief tension centers?
None, really?

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Very formal. His armour is somehow a blend of sleek and futuristic, while retaining tribal qualities. As mentioned above, Artanis isn't particularly fond of wearing such fancy gear, but other Protoss expect it of him,and so he complies.

He's probably got like 489 sets of this, idk.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
He doesn't like it, but he wears it to keep others happy.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Yeaaah, pretty much.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
I don't know, he wears a loin cloth??? I'm not kidding, most Protoss wear butt flaps.



Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Deep.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He speaks very politely, has a refined vocabulary, and though he doesn't exactly like addressing Protoss at large, or at great length, he does so anyway, because It's Expected Of Him. He's had to kind of force his charisma, and sometimes he's not okay with it, but... he kind of has to deal with it.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Not really, haha. But here's a neat tidbit copypasta'd from the wiki:

In addition to telepathy, protoss possess a degree of body language used in conveying feelings, intent, etc. For instance, a bob of the head and movement of a protoss' nerve chords is a sign of contempt. Bowing of the head, shaking and/or mottling of the skin is a sign of emotional distress.

Considering they have almost no facial features, a lot of the "emotion" they visibly convey is around the eyes, so there's a lot of movement there.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
All these alien races and overminds seem to speak English somehow. Though Protoss have their own language (verbally signified by runes) that, when heard by those of other races, come across as garbled, meaningless noise. Some Protoss are able to translate these noises into some understandable form, but... not everyone can do it. While there is in-game dialogue of this language as the Protoss hear it, when heard by, for example, Terran, I imagine it might sound something like this. Just.. weird noises that don't seem to mean anything. IDK.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He sometimes injects the Protoss language, Khalani, into his speech, but never full sentences of it.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He's gotten pretty good at just speaking on the fly. He's had to learn to adapt.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Protoss tend to always be very eloquent. They kind of see themselves as the "superior" race, with some Protoss being more condescending about it than others. Artanis is pretty happy to learn, and as of Legacy of the Void, was incredibly humbled by how little the Protoss actually really know.



Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
For so many to have urged and recommended him take up the mantle as Hierarch, he's a pretty smart guy. He's good at reading the flow of battle and adjusting his plans accordingly.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Can definitely think on his feet.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Extremely logical and eeextreeeemely idealistic. A lot of his recent ideas have sort of gone against old Protoss traditions, in that he's brought a lot of previously conflicting Protoss tribes together. He really does believe that only together can they possibly come out on top.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
Artanis grew up within the Templar Caste, which means he's quite good at manipulating psionic energies. The Templar Caste are also known for producing incredibly strong warriors.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Battle, both on and off the field, is by far where Artanis excels the most, but as of LotV, he's also good at thinking outside the box.

Also as of LotV, I sort of headcanon him with an interest in the cultures of other races.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
I don't really believe he's either.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Very even tempered. Most Protoss are, and rarely give in to primal rage. He also tries to remain optimistic, but has also occasionally holed himself in his quarters to cast off self-doubt. He legitimately believes he still isn't worthy of being Hierarch.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He goes in with a relaxed kind of confidence, but he's generally very kind and polite.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
He's more comfortable reacting, but since becoming Hierarch, he's had to learn to Act.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Protoss don't really practice humour at any capacity, so it could be said the entire concept is foreign to them. Customs, slang, explicit language, humour... all that kind of stuff tends to fly over Artanis' head, who takes virtually everything literally. He once got super confused when someone called him "skippy".

WITH THAT SAID, I WANT HIM TO LEARN WHAT NICKNAMES ARE.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Nope.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
The initial Zerg invasion on Aiur. Meeting Tassadar. Like actually being able to meet him and understand him. Being appointed, albeit slightly pressured into it, as Hierarch.

14. What does he fear?
Letting his people down. Not meeting their expectations. Artanis, even now, is very unsure of himself, but he doesn't let it show.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To be as great as Tassadar and Zeratul were. To protect his people. To unite his people. To free his people.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
That he's actually lacking in self-confidence. Not a great deal, but enough that he privately worries.



Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
It's never mentioned, but given Artanis' personality, they likely got along well.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
None at all, but he considers the Protoss, at large, his very extended family.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Not really.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
In a vague way, he considers all Protoss his family.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Fenix would be Artanis' closest friend. They met during their training within the Templar Caste and went on to travel across countless worlds together. Fenix, unfortunately, fell. Twice.... And then what remained of his subconcious was brought back inside a--

you know, nevermind. But Fenix was his biffle.

6. Does he have other close friends?
Tassadar was someone he greatly looked up to. The same can be said of Zeratul. Raynor also counts for this.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Nope, he's pretty good at getting along with everyone. Even Alarak, though he did on occasion rise to provocation.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Both are equally important.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, and lbr, probably a virgin. Assuming Protoss have sex, idek.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
NA

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He doesn't really have time for that.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nada.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
He sort of did, but it was less a personal thing, and more a Protoss tribe thing. Their culture is surprisingly and weirdly convoluted.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Not even gonna bother with this. Don't really intend to play out romance of any sort with this guy.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
No opinion. It's simply something that's necessary. Unless you're Zerg.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Noooope.


Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
No clue. We have a year of birth, but no specific date.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Heeeeeee is both. But less religious these days. He's striving for his fellow Protoss to see past their differing beliefs to work together to defeat a common enemy. He's very willing to listen to the thoughts of others, and so is also very open to change. He understands things will have to, if they want to succeed.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Yes, but the same can be said of all Protoss. Honour and tradition are things that are very heavily rooted into Protoss culture. He believes in justice, but also mercy. He tends to always wonder if "there was another way". It kinda ties into his lack of self-confidence in himself as Hierarch.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Very tolerant, though this wasn't always the case. Depending on what it is, he might also be curious about it.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He's not fond of betrayal, or senseless killing?



Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Protoss are a dwindling species. I think the approximate figure was 70% of their population was wiped out on Aiur. That being said, they don't really have to worry about running low on resources, so... I guess the Protoss he leads are pretty well off?

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He's basically Protoss Leader. He wasn't always so, and is apparently also the youngest Hierarch ever. He's a little overwhelmed by the responsibilities on his shoulders, but he powers through it because 1) he doesn't really have a choice and 2) people have expectations of him, and he doesn't want to let them down.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Currently, a big ass ship called the Spear of Adun.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Nothing really. He isn't too superficial, and he's quite... busy anyway.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He basically commands the Protoss, and he hasn't really failed so far, so he's definitely good at what he does. And I've said this like 7 times now, but he often doubts himself and his decisions.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Culture of other races??? It isn't something he actively pursues, but if someone brings it up, he'll listen quite intently.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He absorbs sunlight through his skin.... he doesn't even have taste buds. There is however, terrazine and SUndrop, two... drugs of a sort that can affect Protoss. I don't think Artanis has ever felt their effects though.
